Originally created to be an alternative to Adrenaline Rush, Overdrive became so much more. It was modified into an overall performance enhancement drug; used in any situation it simply makes you better at everything. You perceive everything in crystal clear vision, your hearing is beyond perfect, you can identify smells and flavors and textures and colors you never even knew existed before. Pain? It is nothing. An afterthought. You feel as though you could continue at an increased pace for months, years even. In reality what’s happening is that the users cardiovascular system is ramped up to eleven. Your heart beats faster, your blood pumps more quickly, and your lungs work overtime to oxygenate your system in record time. At the same time, the drug attaches itself to nerve endings and blocks pain signals from reaching the brain fully; you can- and this has happened -lose an arm and feel only a dull throbbing while your heart pumps your blood out of the wound at breakneck speed.

After coming down from the high, the user rapidly experiences a crash. They become instantly sluggish, they can’t seem to catch their breath, and their senses are all diminished; except for pain. All the pain their body has been ignoring now seems magnified, when in reality you’ve been feeling the same pain the entire time, it’s just that the jarring difference between how it feels with the drug in your system and without makes everything worse. Lights are suddenly too bright, your skin is suddenly sensitive, everything tastes like mud and smells like an electrical fire. The effects of the crash will be very severe for a full minute, before things begin returning to normal. That being said, the more of the drug you take, you’ll be crashed for an exponentially longer period of time.

It is easy to get addicted to Overdrive, and it is also exceedingly easy to overdose on it. Generally speaking, even if you’re a Krogan, having a liter or more of the stuff in your system at a time will fry your heart(s). Many a Krogan has thought themselves stronger than this drug, and died due to overdose. Doses come in ten milliliters each. It is recommended that you do not take doses back to back, as that increases risk of heart failure. Overdrive is best used for “Can’t fuck up” situations. Times when you absolutely must get everything as correct as possible. It is a favorite of high stakes smugglers and pilots who need that extra edge when evading hostiles; assassins and marksmen also quite love it.
